Computational Design

CODA is an engineering firm operating amid geometry, construction and computation. The team is centred in the ecological footprint reduction and focuses on the generation of lightweight efficient systems by sustainable means, expanding the boundaries of physical and digital form-finding through computational design. The team integrates seamlessly architectural design practice with consultancy research projects at BarcelonaTech and academic tasks leading a master in parametric design in architecture at UPCSchool.

The activity of CODA ranges from consultancy in computational design applied to lightweight structures, to design commissions where efficiency in the building system is highly demanded. The team has built in Norway, Hungary and Spain, and lectured in Austria, Sweden and Korea.

CODA is focused on developing systems allowing to build efficient form by efficient means. Specifically, throughout form-finding processes that integrate both fabrication and erection. The team has a proven experience in the instrumentalisation of elastic deformation, namely bending-active structures. These type of structures are simply generated through the transformation of affordable flat and straight elements, yet stiffened by the process.

The team is composed of architects, engineers & computer scientists.
